Devotional for January 2016

A year gone by, a year to come

Our God is a God of second chances. And third chances. And fourth chances. And however many chances we need. Our God is a God of new beginnings. Our God is a God of new starts. However many new beginnings and new starts we need.

In Philippians the Apostle Paul speaks about new beginnings. Paul says: “But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press onward toward the goal…”

We just celebrated the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017. How fast 2016 seemed to go by. And Christmas 2017 will be here before we know it.

That’s a scary thought.

However you celebrate the new year, be safe.

Look back at 2016 a little. What are the things that stand out in our memories?

God gives us unlimited opportunities to make

new starts in our lives. New starts in our relationships with our families New starts in relationships with other people.

And new starts in our relationship with God

When we repent, that means to turn away

from the sins we have committed, God forgives and forgets those sins. And God will give us the will, the desire the strength, to do better, to follow His commandments, to live a life of love.

God will help us live a new life in a new year.

What are some of the things that we may want to change for this new year?

to be more patient,

to be more loving,

to help those who are needy,

to eat healthier,

to be more earth friendly,

to recycle,

to generate less waste,

to better follow God’s commandments,

to be a better Christian,

to love God more,

to study the scriptures more.

to pray more.

These certainly good ideas. So as I go into this new year, this is what I look forward to:

I look forward to good health,

I look forward to being a better spouse,

I look forward to being able to do a better job,

I look forward to serving God in more and

better ways I look forward to a happy and

peaceful life.

What are you looking forward to?

I pray for you a good life and happiness

I wish you a blessed life in Christ.

So as we finish the last days of 2016 and the first days of 2017 I pray that God becomes even more the center of your life. I pray that you have a safe and prosperous 2017.

If you go out to celebrate on New Year’s Eve be safe.

And may God bless you in 2017 in all that you do.
